IPFW Continues Winning Streak

Fort Wayne, IN- Playing their first home matches of the 2009 season, the IPFW women's tennis team defeated Robert Morris 7-0 and SIU-Edwardsville 7-0, Friday afternoon at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana. With the two victories, the women's tennis team moves to 4-1 on the season.
Thanks to a quick start in both singles and doubles play, the Mastodons dropped only one set Friday afternoon. The two 7-0 wins makes that four straight shut-out victories for the Mastodons.
Sophomore Amy Recht moved to 5-0 on the season after defeating Kali Delorie of Robert Morris, 5-0 (ret. injury) and Laura Horning of SIU-Edwardsville, 6-3, 6-2. Recht also picked up two victories in doubles play with partner Sachi Janek. The duo first defeated Delorie/Shaw (RMU) 8-1, and then Boeckman/Horning (SIUE) 4-0 (ret. injury).
Ingrid Ballus continued her fine sophomore season as she picked up wins over Linny Shaw (RMU) 6-1, 6-0 and Ali Wulfers(SIUE) 6-2, 7-6(3). Ballus is now 4-1 in singles play this spring.
Coming off Summit League player of the week honors last week, Yuka Kobayashi maintained her perfect spring record by defeating Katerina Rudneva(RMU) 6-1, 6-3 and Kelsey Laird(SIUE) 6-3, 2-6, 6-2. The sophomore is now 5-0 on the season.
Freshman Katie Brien played exceptional tennis all day, and brought home two victories in the process. She defeated Maria Olausson (RMU) 6-0, 6-3, and Stephanie Clark (SIUE) 6-1, 6-2. Brien joins Recht and Kobayashi to own perfect 5-0 singles records.
Alexandra Forsyth cruised to two victories Saturday afternoon by shutting out Gwen Dalphow(RMU) 6-0, 6-0, and won by default against SIU-Edwardsville. Forsyth is now 4-1 and continues to have an impressive freshman season.
Senior Ashley Hunter picked up her first victory of the season by beating Sara Meier (RMU) 7-6(3), 6-0.
In doubles play, the `Dons swept the competition in both matches to help secure the victories.
Next up for the women's tennis team is a dual match against Bradley on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the Pine Ridge Racquet and Fitness Center.
