JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The IPFW women's golf team stayed steadily in eighth place on the second day of the 36-hole North-South Collegiate hosted by Butler University. Eleven teams participated in the par 70, 5,810 yard Jacksonville Beach Golf Club.
Senior Alison Rathsman led the 'Dons with a 36 hole 154, good for an eighth place tie. Junior Jillian Speece played well with a 161 while senior Jacque Speece shot a two-day 163. Junior Nikki LeRose had the best improvement from day one to day two firing an 82 after a first round 92. She finished tied for 45th. Freshman Tosha Embry finished with a 36 hole 187.
"I was glad Nikki played better," head coach Jessica Steward said. "Which meant we had more consistency throughout the team. Alison kept up her strong play and set a good pace for the squad. It was a good step up from their previous performance at Murray State, and I'm looking forward to even more improvement in Avon!"
Bethune-Cookman continued its strong play finishing with a two day team total of 607. Bethune-Cookman's Fern Grimshaw holed a two-day 143 ( 3) for first place honors. University of Detroit Mercy came in second with a 623 while St. John's University finished third with a 623.
Next the 'Dons travel to Avon, Indiana March 23, for the Butler University Spring Golf Invitational played at Prestwick Country Club.
