Women's Golf Competes in Butler Spring Invite

AVON, Ind. - The IPFW women's golf team opened play Monday at the two-day Butler Spring Invitational being played at the par 72 and 6,090 yard Prestwick Country Club.
IPFW had a successful first day finishing in sixth place in the eight team field with a team score of 346 which places the Mastodons only four strokes behind fifth place host Butler University (350), and 22 strokes behind tournament leader, University of Evansville (324).
Juniors Jillian Speece and Nikki LeRose, (both tied for 13th), have kept the `Dons in good position after 18 holes both carding first-round totals of 84. Seniors Jacque Speece and Alison Rathsman are both tied for 27th with first-round scores of 89. Freshman Tosha Embry improved on the back nine Monday to score a 100.
Three players are tied for first place honors with 78; including first place University of Evansville's Vandi Gooch.
IPFW will play round two of the Invite today, March 24. Weather in Avon is forecasted to be partly sunny, with a high near 70.
