IPFW Tees Off at Ball State

JASPER, Ind. - Competing in their second tournament of the 2009 season, the IPFW's men's golf team sits in 10th place after 36 holes at the Ball State Cardinal Collegiate in Jasper, Indiana.
The Mastodons fired a first day total of 621 (317-304), which places them tied with Cleveland State, and fourteen strokes ahead of Summit League opponent Oakland. Tournament host Ball State leads the event with a 591.
IPFW was led by Jon Balyeat, who posted a first day total of 151 (78-73), to sit tied for 15th place. After shooting a two-over 74 in the second round, Tyler Haire is one stroke back of Balyeat with a two round total of 152 (78-74). Haire is tied with Michael Sainz (Evansville) in 19th place heading into day two.
Hartley Mcleod recovered for an opening round 82 to card a second round 76 and stand in a tie for 43rd place. Patrick Kelley is tied for 55th place with a 161, and Ryan Olbin fired a 163 over two rounds to sit in 61st place.
The two-day 54 hole event will conclude tomorrow afternoon at the Sultan Run Golf Course. Mother Nature calls for rain occurring off and on throughout the day, and a high of 41 degrees.
