Shreveport, LA – In their first game as the lone leaders of the Summit League, the IPFW Mastodons did not disappoint, dominating the Ladies of Centenary College 76-46 on Monday evening.
Stephanie Rosado picked up her fourth double-double in five conference games this season with 14 points and 12 rebounds, with Anne Boese leading the team in scoring with 15 points. Sydney Weinert added 11 points and Chelsey Jackson 10.
IPFW was nearly flawless at the charity stripe, making 24-of-25 tries (96.0 percent), the fifth best percentage for a single game in school history, and the second best with one miss (27-of-28 against Bellarmine on February 15, 1990).
Jordan Zuppe dished out five assists, as Chelsey Jackson picked up five steals, and Sarah Haluska had a pair of blocked shots. The Mastodons out-rebounded Centenary 37-27, and made 23-of-53 shots from the field (43.4 percent), and 30 percent (6-of-20) from long range.
IPFW remained at the top of the Summit League with the win, improving their record to 5-0 in the conference, with UMKC and North Dakota State sitting as the remaining final two teams with just one loss in league play this season.
Mastodons jumped out early, turning a 2-2 tie into a 9-2 advantage following a 7-0 IPFW win, and after a Bethany Joseph basket cut the deficit to five at 9-4, IPFW ran off eight more points, capped by a Weinert three-point play, giving the ‘Dons a 17-4 lead eight minutes into the contest.
Centenary was able to use runs of 4-0 and 5-0 to close the gap to single digits at 23-16 with just over six minutes to play in the half. After seeing their lead cut to single digits, the Mastodon offense out-scored Centenary 16-9 the rest of the way to take a 39-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
IPFW came out firing on all cylinders out of the locker room, scoring the half’s first 14 points to take off to a 28-point, 53-25 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the game. Centenary followed by scoring the next eight to cut the deficit to 20, but would not get any closer the rest of the way, as the ‘Dons out-scored the Ladies by 10 over the final 13 minutes, cruising to the 76-46 final score.
Ashley Jackson scored 21 of Centenary’s 46 points, making 11-of-14 shots from the free throw line, with the next highest scorer for Centenary being Anne Farrell, who scored five.
The Mastodons return home to the Memorial Coliseum, as the team will face off against UMKC, with first place honors in the Summit League at stake, with tip-off slated for 4:30 PM against the Kangaroos.
