Rockets Blast Past Mastodons, 6-1

West Lafayette, IN- The IPFW women's tennis team began its 2010 campaign on Saturday against the Toledo Rockets at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. Unfortunately for the Mastodons, the Rockets came out firing and didn't let up, winning the contest 6-1 over the `Dons.
Toledo went up 1-0 early in the contest after winning two of the three doubles matches. The duo of Yuka Kobayashi and Raquel Vescovi prevented the Rocket sweep in the doubles competition, with the `Dons winning their match 8-2 over Melissa Reynolds and Silvia Carvajal. Amy Recht and Ingrid Ballus fell in the number one doubles match 8-4 to Martina Wodzinski and Maha Guirguis. At number two doubles, Katie Brien and Alexandra Forsyth lost to Ashley Frey and Nadia Zoubarev, 8-5.
Forsyth picked the lone win and point in the singles competition for the Mastodons. The sophomore won her match in comeback fashion after dropping the first set 2-6, taking the second set 6-4, and winning the super set 10-7. Forsyth moves to 1-0 on the young season.
Next up for the women's tennis team is a non-conference match against the Eastern Illinois Panthers at the Pine Ridge Fitness and Racquet Center tomorrow afternoon. Match Time is set for 4:00 p.m. EST.
