
Second Half Run Pushes Grizzlies to Victory

Rochester, MI - Despite 20-point efforts from sophomore Stephanie Rosado and junior Chelsey Jackson, and out-rebounding the Golden Grizzlies 33-28, the IPFW Mastodons fell to Oakland University 82-68, behind an 18-0 second-half run in the regular season finale for both teams.
Rosado made 11-of-17 shots for 24 points, just off of her career high of 26 set against IUPUI at the Gates Center earlier this year, with Jackson hitting on 9-of-16 shots for 20 points. Jordan Zuppe also reached double-figure scoring with 10 points. Jackson and Sarah Haluska each pulled down seven rebounds for the game-high, as Jackson and Zuppe each dished out here assists. Sydney Weinert blocked a game-high three shots.
The teams traded baskets back and forth for the first minute, and with Oakland leading 4-3, Rosado ran off a personal 6-0 run, giving IPFW a 9-4 lead. A Bethany Watterworth basket with 14:52 left in the first half gave Oakland a 10-9 lead two minutes later.
Oakland retained their one-point lead after a Victoria Lipscomb basket with 14 minutes to play, before IPFW proceeded to score the next seven points on a Jordan Zuppe three-pointer, a Jackson lay-in, and a Rosado basket that pushed IPFW to an 18-12 lead with just under 12 minutes on the clock.
The IPFW lead never grew to more than six, as it stood exactly at six at 23-17 after an Anne Boese three-pointer. Two minutes later the Grizzlies used eight straight points to turn a three deficit into a five-point lead. A Rosado jumper stopped the run, before the hosts scored four more point to lead by seven with 58 seconds left in the contest.
Zuppe hit a running jumper with 41 seconds left to cut into the deficit, sending IPFW into the locker room down by just five at halftime at 39-34.
After Oakland jumped ahead early in the second half to lead by eight at 53-45 with 15:28 to play, the Mastodons made a comeback, out-scoring the hosts 11-3 over the next three and a half minutes to tie the game at 56. With the game tied at 58, Oakland rattled off 18 straight points over the next four and a half minutes to climb to an 18-point lead with 6:50 to play, cruising the rest of the way in the 14-point Oakland win.
Watterworth scored a career-high 32 points on 12-of-20 shooting from the field, as Melissa Jeltema scored 12 and Hanna Reising 10. Riikka Terava dished out a half-dozen assists for the Grizzlies in the win.
The Mastodons get the rest of the weekend off as they find out who they will play in the first round of the Summit League Tournament
