Toledo, OH - IPFW starter Matt Antos and Toledo starter Kyle Shaw put zeros on the board for the first six innings of Wednesday's non-conference baseball game at Scott Park. Antos would leave after six and Shaw went 9.0 complete to shutout the Mastodons 4-0.
Antos struck out five and walked just one. The only hit he surrendered was a leadoff single to UT catcher Aaron Dudley in the second. But after six, the senior's day was over.
IPFW didn't have any better luck against Toledo's sophomore lefthander. Shaw was only tested in the 5th inning as IPFW got back-to-back singles from second baseman Jason Doerffler and left fielder Ryan Beer. But a failed hit-and-run thwarted any hopes of the 'Dons scoring in that frame.
IPFW reliever Ryan Jensen came on in the 7th inning, and after getting the first out surrendered three straight hits. Dudley led it off with a double to the gap in right center. He would score the game's first run on an RBI single by right fielder Dan Sherwood.
The Rockets (7-6) weren't done there, third baseman Joe Corfman would drive in two with Toledo's fourth consecutive hit and led it 3-0. IPFW called for Andrew Emge from the pen and he got a one-pitch line out, throw out double play to end the inning.
In the bottom of the 8th inning, Toledo got another insurance run as Emge gave up an RBI single to center fielder Chris Dudics.
Shaw was masterful, getting the 'Dons to go in order in five innings including the ninth.
For Shaw, it was is second win on the season (2-1). He allowed just three hits and struck out four while walking none.
Jensen was tagged with the loss (0-1), giving up three earned runs on four hits in just a third of an inning.
With the loss, the Mastodons fall to 1-13 on the season. The begin a four-game set at Morehead State on Friday evening in Morehead, Kentucky.
