
'Dons Fall in Series Opener at Michigan

Ann Arbor, MI - IPFW couldn't overcome four errors in a series opening, 10-2 loss at the University of Michigan on Friday afternoon.
The Wolverines also pounded out 11 hits in winning their home opener of the 2010 season.
Michigan (10-9) got three consecutive hits in the bottom of the 2nd inning off of IPFW starter Nick Opitz. First baseman Mike Dufek started it off with a double to left center. He would score on a double to right center by right fielder Nick Urban. Third baseman John Lorenz would finish off the scoring with an RBI single also to right center.
IPFW got one back in the top of the 3rd inning as shortstop Will Faulkner led off with a single to right. Faulkner would then steal his third base of the season and score on a ground out by left fielder Joel Washko.
Michigan added a pair in the bottom of the frame on a two-run homer by DH Coley Crank. The Wolverines also added three in the fourth as IPFW committed a pair of errors in the inning.
Faulkner would score again for the 'Dons in the 5th inning. He induced a leadoff walk from UM starter Alan Oaks. The next batter, right fielder Garrett Segraves, chased Faulkner home with an RBI double. That would be all the scoring for the Mastodons in the contest.
Michigan added three more in the 6th inning to coast to the 10-2 win.
Oaks got the win (3-3). He tossed 5.0 innings, giving up two runs on five hits. He fanned five and walked one.
Opitz tossed a complete game in the loss (1-1). He gave up 10 runs, five earned, on 11 hits. He struck out four and walked one.
With the loss, IPFW falls to 2-18.
Games two and three of the series will be played Saturday due to impending inclement weather in Ann Arbor on Sunday. The Mastodons and Wolverines will play a niine and seven inning contest.
