EVANSTON, Ill. - Alyssa Turney posted a career-best 82 and every member of the IPFW team bettered their day two scores as the IPFW squad held onto to a seventh place finish at the Loyola Women's Golf Invitational at the Evanston Country Club.
Turney improved six strokes from round one to shoot a two-round 170, placing 27th overall. The round betters her previous collegiate career best by four strokes.
Senior Nikki LeRose knocked seven strokes off of her first 18-hole tally with an 84 on the par-73 course. Her two-round total of 175 gave her a share of 36th place.
Junior Amy Funk-Montgomery leapt into third place on the team with her eight-stroke improvement, posting a second round 90 and two-round score of 188, good enough for 48th place. Freshman Breanna Hatter followed one stroke and one place behind Funk as she posted an 189 (95-94), taking home 49th place. Sophomore Tosha Embry rounded out the IPFW lineup as she showed a six-stroke improvement en route to a 202 (104-98) tournament scorecard and 51st place finish.
Western Illinois captured the team title with a team score of 625 and were lead by medalist Lindsay Wandrey and her two-day 150 (76-74).
The two-round improvement by the entire roster has the squad ready for the upcoming conference tournament.
"I'm very happy with the girls' performance today," said head coach Jessica Steward. "Their hard work is beginning to pay off and we've been slowly improving with every tournament. We're coming up on the Summit League championship with a great attitude and are ready to show everyone what we can do."
The Summit League Championship takes place next Monday and Tuesday (Apr. 19-20) at The Oaks Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
