
'Dons Struggle in Opening Rounds of Summit League Championship

TULSA, Okla. - Freshman Alyssa Turney posted opening round scores of 94 and 90 and senior Nikki LeRose followed with tallies of 93 and 92 to lead an IPFW squad that struggled to find their footing in the opening rounds of the 2010 Summit League Championships at The Oaks Country Club in Tulsa.
In the first round, LeRose and Turney posted front-nine scores of 45 ( 9) before closing their 18-hole scores at 93 and 94, respectively. LeRose wrapped the opening round in a tie for 43rd place, while Turney sat in 45th place overall.
Turney improve her second round score, with a 90, to climb into 44th place while LeRose followed with a 92 to fall one stroke back to 45th place.
Junior Amy Funk-Montgomery shot an opening round 98 to take 48th place at 27 and followed up with a second round 94 to sit in 46th place overall after day one.
Breanna Hatter followed two strokes behind Funk in the opening round at 100 ( 29) after going 51-49 on the 6,219 yard, par 71 course. Hatter followed that opening round performance with a 103 to fall to 46th place.
Tosha Embry rounded out the IPFW lineup with a first round 105 ( 34) and nine-hole tallies of 49 and 56 before closing with a 102 to remain in 49th place.
IPFW posted team tallies of 385 and 378 to check in at 10th place. They currently trail ninth place Centenary by 76 strokes with 18 holes remaining tomorrow. Oral Roberts posted round scores of 316 and 309 to take the first day lead in the event.
Oral Roberts' Amber Hensley leads the 49-player field, as she posted 18-hole scores of 76 and 77 to lead teammate Crystal Reeves by a stroke.
The 'Dons will tee-off third round action with a shotgun start tomorrow morning (Apr. 20) beginning at 8 a.m. CST in Tulsa.
