'Dons in Second Place at IPFW Spring Invitational

LEO, Ind. - Riding the top three finishes of the first round, the Bethel College Pilots jumped out to a 58-stroke lead after day one of the IPFW Women's Golf Spring Classic at Cedar Creek Golf Course.
IPFW finished the opening round in second place, posted a team score of 376. Senior Nikki LeRose led the 'Dons, checking in at sixth place overall with an 85 ( 14). Tosha Embry and Breanna Hatter each posted 96's ( 25) in the opening round while Alyssa Turney and Amy Funk-Montgomery posted scores of 99 and 104, respectively.
For Bethel, Jessica Layman led all golfers with a two-over 73 while teammates Katie Powell (80, 9) and Melanie Day (81, 10) rounded out the top three overall finishers. Bethel rounding out its scoring with Beth Slusher's 84 ( 13, fifth place) and Sarah Henderson's 86 ( 15, seventh place).
Chicago State wrapped up the opening round in third place overall, scoring 385 as a team. Andrea Rosado led the Cougars with a fourth place finish and 11, 83 in the opening round. Brittany Johnson (88) and Tessa Harp (90) placed seventh and tenth overall and Hanya Minta rounded out the Cougar lineup with a 124.
Second round action at the IPFW Women's Golf Spring Classic begins tomorrow morning, with a 9 a.m. tee-off in Leo.
