Bethel Takes Title, IPFW Second at IPFW Spring Invite

LEO, Ind. - Four Bethel College Pilots placed in the top five, including medalist Jessica Layman, en route to a 98-stroke victory in the 2010 IPFW Women's Golf Spring Invitational. IPFW held on to a strong opening round start to finish second in the event.
Layman, who posted a one-over 73 in the opening round, carded a second-day best 82 to lead all scorers and take home medalist honors with a 155. Katie Powell (2nd place, 164), Beth Slusher (4th place, 169) and Sarah Henderson (5th place, 170) all turned in top-five finishes, scoring 653 overall in the event. Melanie Day finished in seventh place overall, shooting a 92 on the day to finish at 173 overall in the tournament and Jennifer Hudock, competing as an individual, shot a 183 to round out the Pilot lineup.
IPFW was led in the event by senior Nikki LeRose. She followed her day-one 85 with a 91 to finish at 176 overall, in a tie for ninth place. Alyssa Turney followed LeRose, as she posted a 91 as well to close the two-round tournament at 190 overall.
Tosha Embry placed 12th overall, shooting 96-95 to finish at 191 overall in the tournament. Breanna Hatter posted a 99 to follow her opening round 96 at 195 and 13th place overall. Amy Funk-Montgomery posted a 199, including a second round 95, the best round thus far of her short collegiate career to finish in 14th place at 199 overall.
The Chicago State Cougars finished third overall and were led by Andrea Rosado's 168 (85-83), placing her third overall in the event. Brittany Johnson carded a second-day 83 to finish at 171 overall in sixth place. Tessa Harp folllowed Johnson, posting a round two 85 to finish in eighth place with a 175. Hanya Minta rounded out the Cougar lineup with a 114 to close the tournament in 15th place at 238 overall.
The 'Dons return to action next Sunday (Apr. 11) as they take part in the Loyola Women's Golf Invitational. The two-round tournament wraps up Monday, April 12.
