Dayton, OH - In the first exhibition match of the season, the IPFW women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss against Wright State on Saturday at Alumni Field.
Things got off to a rough start for the 'Dons, as just a minute into the first period, a scramble in the box on a Wright State corner kick ended up with IPFW scoring in its own goal putting WSU on the scoreboard early.
IPFW goalie, Kristen McFadden, stopped WSU from having a 2-0 lead at the 13:29 mark with a save off of a shot by WSU's Bekah Bonny.
In the second period, sophomore Lisa Underwood found the back of the net on an unassisted score to put the Mastodons on the board and tie the game at one. Last season, Underwood was named Summit League Freshman of the Year and will be leaned upon heavily this season.
Less than a minute later, WSU's Brittany Persaud regained the lead for the Raiders, 2-1.
McFadden stopped the Raiders from increasing the lead once again with less than six minutes to go for the final score of 2-1.
WSU outshot IPFW in the match by an 8-4 count, while the Mastodons had two fouls to the Raiders' five.
IPFW returns to action on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. against Eastern Kentucky at Hefner Stadium for its second exhibition match.
