Mastodons Suffer a 3-0 Loss to Bison

FARGO, N.D. - After coming off their first conference win of the season last weekend, the IPFW women's soccer team suffered a 3-0 loss to undefeated Summit League foe North Dakota State on Friday evening in Fargo, N.D.
With the loss, the Mastodons drop to 4-8-0 and 1-3-0 in the Summit League while the Bison improve to 12-2-1 and 5-0-0 in league action.
In the 20th minute the Bison got the early 1-0 lead over the Mastodons. Morgan DeMike had her shot blocked by IPFW, NDSU teammate Michelle Gaffaney was able to rebound the ball into the upper left corner for the first goal of the match.
IPFW junior Tylar Allison nearly evened the score just eight minutes after the Bison goal, however, her shot was saved by NDSU goalie, Kalani Bertsch.
Not even a minute later, the Bison struck again. Brooklyn Dyce had a cross from the right side to her NDSU teammate Katie Tallas, who then delivered a shot from eight yards out for the 2-0 lead in the 28th minute.
In the 55th and 56th minutes, the 'Dons had a chance to get on the board when Allison had three-straight corner kicks followed by a shot by freshman teammate Sydney Hoareau, but NDSU responded with a save.
At the 77:26 mark, the Bison managed to get on the board again off of an attempted clear from IPFW goalie, Kristen McFadden. NDSU's Jacklyn Scanian blocked the clear and was then able to rebound the ball into the goal for the 3-0 score.
As the clock wound down, the Bison held on to their lead for the 3-0 win over the Mastodons.
Hoareau led the Mastodons with three shots, including two on goal. Allison, junior Arianne Mason and senior Tara O'Toole each tallied two shots with one on goal.
McFadden played the full 90-minute match and collected a total of five saves.
NDSU and IPFW were fairly even with the number of shots in the match. The Bison had 13, with eight on goal, while the Mastodons had 12 shots, with six on goal. The Bison led in fouls, 8-3.
The Mastodons will now travel to Brookings, S.D. to take on South Dakota State. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m. EST against the Jackrabbits at the Fishback Soccer Park.
