FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The Mastodons picked up their first conference-match win when they shutout the South Dakota Coyotes, 2-0, on Sunday afternoon in Fort Wayne, Ind. at the Hefner Soccer Complex.

With the win, IPFW improves to 1-1 this weekend and moves to 4-7-0 overall (1-2-0 Summit League) while USD falls to 1-9-3 (1-2-1 SL).

The Mastodons dominated the match with most of the play on IPFW's half of the field. The 'Dons recorded a total of 21 shots, with five on goal, while the Coyotes had 9 shots, with four on goal.

In the 30th minute, junior Lisa Underwood got the Mastodons on the board after freshman Sydney Hoareau passed the ball to junior Rhea Proctor, who then dropped a cross in front of the box to Underwood.

Underwood, a Fort Wayne native, is currently in second place in the IPFW women's soccer program for most career goals (22) and only three goals away from tying the record (25).

In the 73rd minute, senior Tara O'Toole provided insurance to the Mastodons lead. O'Toole earned her second goal of the season after gathering a pass from junior-teammate Danielle Bishop on the breakaway, beating the keeper to the far post for the 2-0 final score.

Underwood had a total of five shots for the Mastodons while O'Toole had three. Hoareau tallied a total of three shots, with one on goal, and one assist, while Bishop also had three shots and then one assist.

Both teams saw 10 fouls each while USD had one yellow card.

In goal, senior Kristen McFadden played the full 90 minutes with four saves while the Coyotes split the match between goalkeepers, Mackenzie Viktor (two saves) and Kayla Wegman.

The Mastodons will return to action next weekend with a pair of road matches against North Dakota State (Oct. 14) and South Dakota State (Oct. 16).
