FORT WAYNE, Ind. - On senior night for IPFW on Saturday evening, it as a pair of freshmen - Emily Spencer and Kendall Wienkes - who excelled, as the Mastodons topped in-state rival IUPUI for the second time this season 3-1 (25-19, 25-20, 15-25, 25-19).
With the win IPFW clinches the second seed in the upcoming Summit League Tournament, hosted by the Mastodons in the Gates Sports Center, while also giving the team its 21st win (21-8, 14-4 Summit) of the season.

Megan Steenhuysen dished out a match-high 52 assists, while Tessa McGill picked up 20 digs to lead four players in double-figures in the category. Three players, Hook, Manwaring, and Steenhuysen, each had two blocks for IPFW.
The Mastodons found themselves trailing early at 4-2, but a 13-5 stretch pushed IPFW ahead to a comfortable margin, which would only get as close as five the rest of the way in the 25-19 first-set IPFW win.
IPFW never trailed in the second set, but were tied six times, the latest coming at 14-14. After the last tie score, IPFW scored six of the next seven points to lead 19-15, before cruising to a 25-20 final score, sending the Mastodons into the break with a 2-0 set advantage.
IUPUI used a 5-0 run late in the set to turn a four-point advantage into a nine-point lead, as the visitor won the third set in convincing fashion 25-15.
IPFW trailed just once in the fourth set, at 2-1, as IPFW used a 5-0 run which included a pair of Wienkes service aces, pushing ahead to a 16-8 advantage, and never trailing again, winning the deciding set 25-19.
The Mastodons will host the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles in the first round of the Summit League Tournament, while Oakland will face off against North Dakota State in the first semifinal of the tournament.
