IPFW Pulls Away Late to Oust Grace, 71-54

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Led by senior Stephanie Rosado's 17 points and six rebounds, the IPFW women's basketball team held off a late charge from Grace to win 71-54 Thursday evening at the Gates Center.
IPFW wins its first game in the 2011-12 season, moving to 1-3 overall. The Lancers, who were ranked #24 in the latest NAIA national poll, drops to 5-2 this season.
Rosado found her groove early on for the Mastodons, scoring three of the team's first six baskets to give IPFW a quick 14-9 lead. Successful field goals from Hillary Moore and Amanda Hyde a short time later helped jump start an 11-4 run to take the score to 27-19 with five minutes left in the first half. With 36 seconds left on the clock, Hyde, who attacked the rim all evening, earned a trip to the foul line and drained a pair of free throws to give IPFW a 34-24 halftime lead.
The Lancers were the aggressors to start the second half, putting together an early 8-2 run, and ultimately tying the contest at 44-44 with 12:05 left on the clock.
Following a media timeout, head coach Chris Paul went to his bench and found a spark from a handful of young 'Dons, including freshman Haley Seibert. The freshman, along with Rachel Mauk, slowly built a 16-5 run to take the IPFW lead back to double-digits at 60-49. Seinbert finished the night with a career-high five points.
With little time remaining on the clock, Grace managed to cut the deficit to eight with 3:48 left, but the Mastodons held it together and found late layups from Erin Murphy and Mauk to secure a 71-54 win.
Four Mastodons finished with double-digit point totals, led by Rosado's team-high 17 points. Moore finished 13 points, while Mauk had 11 and Hyde managed 10. Lancer Kiere Gray drained a game-high 18 points in the loss. The Mastodons never trailed in the contest.
IPFW returns to action on Sunday, Nov. 20, when they welcome Horizon League opponent Butler to the Gates Center. Game-time is set for 2:00 p.m. EST.
