The Mastodon lead remained at five at 14-9 after a Jordan Zuppe three-point basket, before UMKC, over the next four minutes, outscored IPFW 10-3 to lead by five at 22-17, its largest margin in the first half.
The teams traded baskets, with UMKC still ahead by five, before IPFW started to pull away in the half, scoring 14 straight points to lead by nine after a Weinert free throw; however, an Eilise O'Connor basket as time expired at halftime cut the deficit to seven at 33-26 heading into the locker room at halftime.
The teams went back and forth to start the second half, with the Kangaroos cutting the deficit to seven at 41-34, before Stephanie Rosado responded, scoring six straight points, and ten consecutive IPFW points, to push the second seed to a 14-point, 49-35 lead with 13:30 to play in the game.

Zuppe snapped the 7-0 UMKC run with a three-point basket with 6:23 to play, before Boese followed with a longball of her own, and a pair of Rosado free throws pushed IPFW's advantage to 17 at 61-44, as the hosts on the scoreboard made 7-of-10 charity stripe attempts down the stretch to ice the game in the 15-point victory.
IPFW made 21-of-48 shots from the field, a percentage of .438, while hitting on 6-of-15 shots (.400 percent) from long range, and 20-of-29 (.690 percent) from the free throw line.
