
Men's Golfers Close Out Season With 8th Place Finish

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Led by Tomaz Pinheiro's 24th place finish, the IPFW Mastodon golf squad closed out the 2011 season with an 8th place finish in the Boilermaker Invitational.
With Purdue's Kampen Golf Course set up at a difficult 7,465 yards, the Mastodon squad responded well in Easter Sunday action as they tallied a 309 team score overall.
Pinheiro closed the tournament with rounds of 73-77-80 to finish at +14 (230). Junior John McMillen made the biggest charge on the team as the junior followed up opening day rounds of 77 and 80 with a 74 on Easter Sunday. He checked in one place behind Pinheiro in 25th at +15 (231) on the tournament.
Drew Imel closed out his successful sophomore season with a 77 in the final round. The native of Bluffton, Ind. opened the event with rounds of 79 and 77, wrapping the 72-hole event in 32nd place.
Junior Jacob Bailey posted a final round 80 after Saturday scores of 78 and 77, posted a T41st place finish at +19 (235).
Playing in his final event as a Mastodon, senior Ryan Olbin closed out his collegiate career with a six-over 78. The Fort Wayne native carded rounds of 80 and 78 to open the event to guide him to his 43rd place final standing.
The host Boilermakers captured the overall team title on their home course. Idaho, Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and IUPUI rounded out the top five. Purdue's Adam Schenk edged IUPUI's Ben Engle for medalist honors after rounds of 73-71-69 pushed him to three-under.
The event wraps another successful season for the Mastodon golf program under Head Coach Billy King. With only Olbin lost to graduation, and a stellar incoming class for the Fall, the future of the IPFW golf program is a bright one.
