Buffalo, NY - The IPFW women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss to the Buffalo Bulls on Sunday afternoon at the UB Stadium in Buffalo, New York.

After wrapping up their New York road trip, the Mastodons fall to 2-3-0 overall while the Bulls improve to 5-1-0.

The tone of the game was set early in the first half when in the first 13 minutes there was a combined eight fouls.

In the 27th minute, IPFW sophomore Caroline Castelli nearly put the Mastodons on board but the Buffalo goalie denied the scoring opportunity with a save.

With the lack of scoring opportunities, the first half continued to be filled with rough play with a total of 18 fouls by each team.

IPFW was forced to withstand the offensive pressure by UB in the first 15 minutes of the second half, which saw three shots, with two on goal, and three corner kicks by the Bulls.

In the 70th minute, Buffalo had the first goal of the match. The Bulls' Karen McMahon fired a shot in the lower right corner of the goal to beat IPFW senior goalie Kristen McFadden for the 1-0 lead.

With time winding down on the clock, IPFW pressed the ball into their attacking half of the field with senior Tara O'Toole and sophomore Elise Mamanu-Gray putting two shots on goal for the 'Dons, however, UB goalie was able to preserve the 1-0 final.

In the aggressive match, IPFW saw a total 18 fouls with one yellow card while UB had 12 fouls. The Bulls led the 'Dons in shots (12-7) and corner kicks (8-0). McFadden recorded seven saves in net for the Mastodons.

The Mastodons will now face Bowling Green on Friday (Sept. 16). Game time is set for 5 p.m. in Bowling Green, Ohio.
