Bailey Leads Mastodons to a Strong First Round at Valpo Invite

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Freshman Sydney Bailey leads the IPFW women's golf team to an 18-hole finish of seventh place out of a field of 13 teams at the Valpo Invitational.
The Mastodons shot a first-round team total of 327 to put IPFW just one stroke behind sixth-place SIU Edwardsville (326) at the Course of at Aberdeen. Butler leads the invitational after placing a team total of 312. The 327 total is the Mastodons best 18-hole finish since the program's 2009 spring season.
The top four Mastodons, including three freshmen, are all within a few strokes of each other at the 6151-yard par 72 course.
Bailey, a Wanatah, Indiana native, is tied for 16th place overall after firing an 80 after the first 18 holes to finish in the top spot in the Mastodon lineup.
Junior Alyssa Turney and freshman Allison Curtis are two strokes back from Bailey to tie for 24th place after they both carded 82's.
IPFW freshman Ashton Taft, a Snider High School alum, tied for 30th place overall after she posted a low round of 83.
Rounding out the lineup for IPFW is sophomore Taylor Lamphier who had an opening round of 104 for 73rd place.
Playing as an individual, sophomore Maggie Talbert fired a 79 to tie for 10th place, her best round of her career thus far.
Tomorrow's final round of the Valpo Invitational will start at 10:30 a.m. EST with a shotgun start.
