Men's Golf Sits in First Place at Dayton Flyer Invitational

KETTERING, Ohio - The IPFW men's golf team put their top four scorers inside under a 77, and sit in a tie for first place after the first of two days at the 2012 Dayton Flyer Invitational hosted at the NCR Country Club.
IPFW and Western Kentucky each have first-round scores of 295, and are chased by a group of 16 schools that include host Dayton (296), Valparaiso (299), Oakland (301), Loyola (301), Ohio (302), Detroit (303), Youngstown State (305), IUPUI (305), Bowling Green (307), Butler (309), Northern Kentucky (309), Owens (310), Evansville (311), Robert Morris (312), Wright State (317), and Chicago State (380).
Leading the way for the Mastodons in the first round was E.J. Tackett, who shot a one-over par 72, good for a tie of sixth place.
Seniors Bruno Carvalho and Drew Imel carded 73 and 74, each, to place in a tie of 11th and 15th, each.
Jacob Groninger shot a 76 to tie for 31st, and round out the scoring four for the Mastodons' second-lowest team score during this fall season.
Patrick Kundenreich shot a 77 in his first action this season, a stroke out of the top four for IPFW, while Oliver Gibson shot a 79 as an individual.
The Mastodons return to action tomorrow morning, as IPFW looks for its second tournament win in the last two seasons.
