KETTERING, Ohio - After carding a first-round score of 304, which was the second-lowest round in school history, the IPFW women's golf team came back with a second-round 305 - placing fifth in the field - and giving the squad a two-round score of 609, a dozen strokes better than the previous record of 621 set in 2007.
IPFW's fifth place finish put them behind Detroit, who shot a 588, while Valparaiso carded a 592, Ohio a 605, and Oakland a 606. Chasing the Mastodons in the field were Youngstown State (615), Chicago State (618), Findlay (625), Eastern Illinois (629), Dayton (630), Evansville (641), Robert Morris (650), IUPUI (652), Bellarmine (653), Alabama State (653), Northern Kentucky (654), and Otterbein (672).
Ashton Taft tied her own personal best with a low round of 72 on Tuesday, placing in a tie for sixth in the field, which tied for the third-lowest single round score in school history, while her 146-stroke two-round score topped the previous school record of 150 set by Allison Rathsman in 2007.
Curtis, who had the team's lowest score on Monday, shot a 74 for the second day for a 36-hole score of 147, also better than the previous record, taking her into a tie of eighth place.
Alyssa Turney shot a 78 on the final day for a two-round total of 157, placing in a tie of 32nd, while Sydney Bailey and Taylor Lamphier each shot a final-round score of 81. Bailey's came after a first-round 78 for a total of 159 (tie 39th place), while Lamphier's came after an 83, tying for 66th with a 164.
The tournament caps the fall season for the Mastodons.
