Bishop Goal Sends 'Dons to Win in the Rain

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - With a goal from Danielle Bishop halfway through the first overtime period, the IPFW Mastodons evened their Summit League record with a 2-1 win over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on a rainy Friday evening.

The win improves IPFW to 5-6 overall and 1-1 in the Summit League while SDSU falls to 2-8-1 overall, and 0-2 in league play.

Five minutes into the extra time, Tylar Allison sent the ball across the box which was deflected off the head of Bishop right to Amber Lawrence who one-touched the ball to the middle, finding a waiting Bishop who easily put the ball into the back of the net.

The Mastodons held the advantage in shots in each of the three periods of the game, including a 6-4 advantage in the first half, as neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first 45 minutes of the contest.

Six and a half minutes into the second half Rhea Proctor scored her first goal of the season when she picked up the rebound off of a Sydney Hoareau free kick, giving the Mastodons a 1-0 advantage.

The Jackrabbits wasted little time in answering back when Diana Potterveld scored her third goal of the season on a through pass that she was able to use to beat IPFW keeper Sam Pavlika and knot the score at one apiece in the 63rd minutes of the game.

Over the final 26-plus minutes, neither team would find the back of the net, sending the contest into an extra period.

The Mastodons return to action on Sunday afternoon when the squad hosts the Bison of North Dakota State in a noon kickoff at the Hefner soccer Field.
