Mastodons Fall 64-47 at Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – IPFW outscored Indiana 27-26 in the second half, but the Mastodons were unable to record a victory on Monday night as the Hoosiers pulled out a 64-47 win. IPFW is now 2-3 overall.
Amanda Hyde and Rachel Mauk were the leading scorers for IPFW on Monday as Hyde ended the night with a team-high 11 points to go eight rebounds. Mauk added 10 points, two assists, and two steals. Erin Murphy once again provided the 'Dons with a spark off the bench with eight points and two assists in 30 minutes of action.
Indiana (5-1) was led by senior forward Aulani Sinclair who scored a game-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting. She knocked down 4-of-9 shots from behind the arc while also pulling down seven rebounds. Jasmine McGhee also impacted the game as she recorded a double-double for IU with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Indiana was on top 38-20 at the break. Sinclair was limited to just 13 minutes of playing time after picking up two fouls early in the first half, but Nicole Bell filled in for her scoring 12 points on four 3-point field goals. Sinclair entered the game leading the team with a 20.2 scoring average while Bell, a true freshman, was only scoring 2.4 points per game entering Monday night. Bell ended the game with 13 points as she was only able to add a free throw in the final twenty minutes of action.
Indiana shot 68 percent from the floor in the opening half compared to just 39 percent for the Mastodons. IPFW picked up their defensive intensity to limit Indiana to just 40 percent shooting in the second half of action.
A zone defense from IPFW helped force Indiana turnovers. The 'Dons scored 18 points off Indiana turnovers and they also outscored the Hoosiers 14-6 in second chance points.
It was a team effort from IPFW as eight different players scored at least two points. Sophomores Rebecca Bruner and Haley Seibert each scored four, while Hillary Moore scored a season-high five points. Moore added five rebounds in just 14 minutes of action.
IPFW will return to action on Thursday, Nov. 29 when they travel to Southern Illinois to face the Salukis at 12:05 p.m. The team will return to the Gates Sports Center on Dec. 4 with a matchup against the Valparaiso Crusaders.
