BOX SCORE
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Behind a school-record-tying 43 points from junior Amanda Hyde, the IPFW Mastodons held on late for a 78-65 victory over the Southern Illinois Salukis in a rare mid-day, mid-week match-up.
Hyde ended the game shooting 16-of-26 from the field, 3-of-5 from three, and 8-of-9 from the charity stripe. She scored 21 points in the first half, and bettered that with 22 in the second. The 26 shot attempts are the fourth-highest single-game total, while the 16 makes ties for the second-highest.
The 43 points are also the highest single-game total in NCAA Division I this season, and are tied for the second-most in a game in Summit League history, behind only the 44 put up by Oral Roberts' Kevi Luper against LaSalle in 2009-10. The total puts her in a tie with Brianne Kenneally of Youngstown State who scored 43 against Georgia State in 2000-01, and Kansas City's Dayon Hall-Jones who scored 43 against Oral Roberts last season.
Haley Seibert added 10 points, while Stefanie Mauk pulled down a career-high 14 rebounds, as IPFW out-rebounded the Salukis 41-36 in the contest. Seibert dished out five assists, while Hyde gave out four.
IPFW (3-3) never trailed in the game, as Hyde scored the team's first eight points, pushing the visitors ahead 8-4. Southern Illinois cut the gap to 10-8 with 16:22 to play in the first half, before the Mastodons reeled off 12 straight points over a nearly five-minute span to push the IPFW advantage to a 14-point, 22-8 lead.
The margin never reached single digits for the rest of the half, despite the Salukis cutting the gap to 13 at 37-24 with 3:33 left in the opening half, but would not score again, as IPFW closed the opening stanza with four points in the final three and a half minutes to take a 41-24 lead into the locker room at halftime.
The IPFW advantage remained double-digit until late in the game, when the hosts cut the gap to as few as seven with 4:08 to play at 68-61; however, the Mastodons out-scored the Salukis 10-4 the rest of the way to claim the 13-point victory.
SIU put four players into double-figure scoring, led by Dyana Pierre's 16 points and 19 rebounds, while Azia Washington scored 14.
The Mastodons return to action on Tuesday, December 4, when the squad plays host to the Valparaiso Crusaders in a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Gates Sports Center.
