IPFW Adds Four to Hall of Fame Class

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Athletics Hall of Fame was bolstered on Saturday afternoon with the addition of four IPFW greats: Ashley (Ritchey) Ade, Kristin Macdonald-Simpson, Fabiana Shields, and Ryan Steinbach; as the group became the eighth class inducted into the school's Hall of Fame.

The quartet were recognized in a ceremony on Saturday afternoon at the Steel Dynamics Keith E. Busse IPFW Alumni Center, and later during the Homecoming celebrations at halftime of the IPFW Men's Basketball game.

Ade competed for IPFW from 2000-2003, and has etched her name into the record books at IPFW. She has the third-fastest 5,000-meter time in women's cross country history, and her 6,000-meter time ranks as the fourth-fastest such time in program history.

She also ranks inside of the top-five in numerous indoor and outdoor track events, including in indoor being the third-fastest runner in the 3,000- and 5,000-meter runs, the fourth fastest in the mile, while in outdoor track being the third fastest runner in the 10,000-meter run, and the fourth fastest in the 5,000-meter run.

Kristin Macdonald-Simpson, who played for IPFW from 2000-03, remains the women's soccer program's all-time leading scorer, having scored 25 goals in her career. A member of the program's first winning season, Macdonald-Simpson left the program with 58 total points, which still stands as the career mark. Her eight assists for her career also currently rank third in school history.

Her premier season came during her junior campaign when she scored eight goals and dished out four assists for 20 points. She scored nine goals in her freshman season, IPFW's second year as a program, while adding six as a sophomore and two during her senior year. Her six game-winning goals remain in a tie for the career school record.

Fabiana Shields, who played from 2002-05, ended her playing career at IPFW with an eye-popping 2,305 kills, a total that remains the 13^th highest career total in NCAA Volleyball history. She was a two-time Independent Player of the Year, and three-time All-Independent First Team selection, while earning six Independent Offensive Player of the Week honors.

She also has four of the top seven single-season kill totals, including a school record 621 in 2004, and her 34 kills against South Dakota State on November 12, 2005 is the second-highest single-match total in program history. She also ranks sixth in career service aces (180), and seventh in career digs (1,434) in IPFW history.

Steinbach played for IPFW from 2004-2005, and is one of two IPFW players to have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft when he was picked in the 20^th round by the Baltimore Orioles. He played in the Baltimore system for two years, splitting time with the Class-A Aberdeen Ironbirds, the Class A Delmarva Shorebirds, and the Class A Frederick Keys.

During his two years at IPFW, he sported a .345 career batting average, the sixth-highest career total in program history, while his .442 on-base percentage is third-best all-time. In 2005 he was named to the All-Independent First Team, and to the All-Academic Team.
