Turney Leads 'Dons in Opening Round at Sunshine Spring Classic

ORLANDO, Fla. - The IPFW women's golf team got the Sunshine Spring Classic underway on Thursday in Orlando, Fla., at the Rio Pinar Country Club, finishing with a 337 during its first round to stand in a seventh-place tie with Valparaiso.
The Mastodons' 49-over score put them four shots out of sixth place, which was held by Indiana State. Lehigh University leads the 10-team field with 309.
Junior Alyssa Turney sits at the top of the leaderboard for the 'Dons after she had an opening-round of 80 and now stands in a two-way tie for 15th place.
At the par-72, 6,009-yard course, freshman Allison Curtis carded a round of 83 to tie for 23rd place after day one while sophomore Taylor Lamphier is three strokes behind in a 36th place tie.
Rounding out the Mastodon lineup, sophomore Maggie Talbert and freshman Sydney Bailey wrapped up the day in a 44th place tie after they each posted 88.
Playing as individuals, freshman Ashton Taft finished with an 84 and tied for 28th place while junior Breanna Hatter is in 55th place with a 93 after the first 18 holes.
IPFW will return to the course tomorrow to close out the event with the final 18 holes.
