Women's Golf Takes Fourth at IPFW Spring Classic

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodon women's golf team carded a team score of 343 on a windy day at Pine Valley Golf Course on Monday afternoon, totaling 674 over the two days, good for fourth place in the 10-team field.
The University of Indianapolis took home team champion honors with a 640 (322-318), with Chicago State (327-335) and SIU Edwardsville (340-331) carded team scores of 662 and 671. Cleveland State (676), Valparaiso (676), Lewis (680), Detroit (685), Nebraska Omaha (687) and Green Bay (704) rounded out the remaining six teams in the field. Lewis' Leila Marquet took tournament medalist honors in a one-hole playoff over Indianapolis' Darin Pinnick.
The Mastodons got a balanced scoring effort from each of their five scoring players, as there were just six strokes from first to fifth in the IPFW lineup. Maggie Talbert carded a two-day score of 168 (81-87), good for a tie of 17th in the field of 64 players, while Allison Curtis (81-88) and Ashton Taft (82-87) each tied for 20th with a 169. Alyssa Turney, who had a team-best 82 in the second round, finished the event with 170 strokes as Sydney Bailey shot an even 87-87 over the two rounds for a 174.
Taylor Lamphier carded a two-day score of 183, good for 50th overall, as Breanna Hatter and Tosha Embry took 56th and 57th with scores of 186 and 187, respectively. Meredith Holt took 60th to round out the IPFW golfers in the field, carding a 190 over the two rounds.
The 'Dons take the next weekend off, before traveling to Bowling Green, Ohio, to compete in the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational held at Stone Ridge Golf Club.
