PRIMM, Nev. - Led by a trio of top-15 individual performances, the IPFW men's golf team finished in fourth place at the 2012 Summit League Championships on Tuesday in Primm, Nev. The Mastodons tied their best-ever finish at the conference tournament.
Entering the final day in second place, IPFW fired a third round total of 290, ending the 54-hole tournament with a season-low 856 (279-287-290). The Mastodons finished five strokes back of Oral Roberts for third place (851) and five shots ahead of North Dakota State for the fifth spot (861).
"I'm extremely proud of our team the past two days," King said. "Although we didn't play well enough to win, we competed at a high level and played very well. With all five conference competing players coming back next season, the future is bright for IPFW golf. I'm very excited for the direction of our program. "
IUPUI and Southern Utah tied for the team title with a two-day mark of 849. To settle the tie, IUPUI defeated Southern Utah in a playoff on the No. 18 hole, giving the Jaguars the 2012 conference title.
Sophomore Patrick Kundenreich led IPFW with an 11th place finish after posting a 54-hole total of 215 (74-70-71). Kundenreich carded three birdies en route to a final round even-par 71.
Junior Drew Imel and freshman Eddie Tackett tied for 14th place, as the duo each managed a 216. Imel recovered nicely on Tuesday with a two-under 69 to go with rounds of 70-77 from Monday. Tackett opened with scores of 70-71 and added a 75 in the final round.
After mustering a career-low 66 in Monday's opening round, then followed with a 76 in round two, junior Bruno Carvalho posted a 75 on Tuesday to finish tied for 19th place with a 217. Freshman Jacob Groninger rounded out the Mastodon lineup with a 223 (73-73-80), placing tied for 36th.

The Mastodons have completed their spring schedule and will now reload for the 2012-13 campaign. It was another successful season for head coach Billy King and the Mastodons, as they took home the program's second-ever tournament win at the 2011 Cleveland State Invitational.
IPFW says goodbye to seniors John McMillen and Jacob Bailey, but welcomes back all five conference tournament participants, as well as, two in-coming freshmen.
