Mastodons and Huskies Play to Scoreless Draw in Exhibition Finale

DEKALB, Ill. - In the team's exhibition finale, the IPFW Mastodons and the Northern Illinois Huskies played to a scoreless draw, with the team's defenders, highlighted by freshman goalkeeper Sam Pavlika, keeping the Huskies scoreless despite nine shot attempts, six on goal.
IPFW goes to 2-0-1 in the exhibition season, including a span of 253:30 of scoreless soccer after allowing a goal 17:30 into the game against Detroit, which was followed by back-to-back shutouts.
The 'Dons took three total shots in the game, while Northern Illinois attempted nine shots, six on goal.
The young IPFW team, which saw seven newcomers dot the starting lineup, saw Erin Gill take the first shot of the game just under two minutes into the game. The second half also saw the Mastodons jump out quickly with a shot attempt 2:03 into the second period, from Rachel Good, but like the first half, the shot was saved by NIU goalkeeper Deanna Libricz.
Pavlika picked up six saves in the defensive effort, while Gill, Good, and Danielle Bishop each had one shot attempt.
The Mastodons open their 2012 regular season on Friday, August 17 when the squad plays host to the St. Joseph's (Ind.) Pumas at 7 p.m. at the Carroll High School soccer field.
