Mastodons to Open Regular Season at Butler

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons open their 2012 regular season on Sunday afternoon, when the squad travels to Indianapolis to face off against the Bulldogs of Butler University.

All-Time Series: IPFW and Butler have met five previous times on the pitch, with the Bulldogs holding a 3-1-1 all-time mark in the series. The last meeting between the two teams came on September 7, 2008, when Butler picked up a 3-0 win in Indianapolis. IPFW's lone win in the series came in 2004, a 1-0 win in Indianapolis, as the last three games have been split evenly, 1-1-1, the tie coming via a scoreless 110 minutes in 2003.
Scouting the Mastodons: IPFW comes into the game after a 2-0-1 exhibition season, in which the defense gave up just one goal in 270 minutes of action.
Danielle Bishop leads the offense, as the senior scored three goals a season ago, while classmate Tylar Allison dished out a single-season school record six assists.
Defensively the Mastodons return goalkeeper Krysta Hedrick, who saw just over 250 minutes in goal a season prior, allowing less than a goal per game, as Amber Lawrence and Caroline Castelli also return as defensive starters from a year ago.

In the defense, Natalie Galovska and Julie Burton split the minutes nearly evenly, with Galovska finishing with 915:07 minutes, and Burton 954:26. Galovska finished with a lower goals against average (1.28 to 1.70), while Burton had more saves (42-to-28), as Burton returns for the Bulldogs.
