It looked like IPFW would cruise to victory after holding a 24-20 edge, but the Jackrabbits charged back behind three-straight kills from Kaitlin Klingemann to tie the game at 24-24. Emily Spencer gave IPFW a one point cushion with her fourth kill of the set, and a SDSU attack error gave IPFW the win.
The Mastodons controlled the second set from the very start as an early 10-6 lead expanded into a 15-7 margin for IPFW, but SDSU would once again make a run to close the gap. The 'Dons called a timeout with a four point lead (20-16) and the Jackrabbits wouldn't get any closer giving IPFW a 2-0 advantage at the break.
IPFW jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the third set, but quickly found themselves trailing 16-12 after a string of attack errors. This time it was IPFW who had to fight back as they tied the score at 20-20 after a kill from Spencer. Wienkes gave IPFW a one point lead, and SDSU called a timeout to counter. IPFW never let up as they pushed their lead to 24-21 forcing the Jackrabbits to call their second timeout. SDSU scored twice out of the timeout, but the 'Dons completed the sweep with a 25-23 win off an SDSU attack error.
The Mastodons will host North Dakota State, the preseason favorites, here at the Gates Sports Center on Saturday night. The first set will begin at 7 p.m.
