‘Dons Prepare for Final Regular Season Road Trip

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's volleyball team will head out on the road for their final Summit League road series of the year as they travel Western Illinois on November 1, followed by a match at Omaha on November 3.

The Leathernecks are led by Samantha Fournier who ranks 71st in the nation and fourth in the league in kills per set (3.75) and 79th nationally and fourth in the league in points per set (4.17). Western Illinois also has Kaitlynn Novak who sits 57th in Division I in aces per set at 0.37 which is second in the league.

IPFW holds a 13-2 record all-time against the Leathernecks. The Mastodons also hold a 11-2 advantage in all-time league play and are 6-1 all-time in Macomb, with their only loss coming back in 2010 in a 3-1 decision. The Mavericks are primarily a young squad, with four freshmen, seven sophomores and two juniors making up the roster. Omaha has no seniors in 2013, and four members of the sophomore class were starters last season.
Megan Schmale ranks second in the Summit League in total blocks (90) and blocks per set (1.15), and her .291 hitting percentage ranks fifth. Bailey Baxter comes in second with 0.38 service aces per set and third with 30 total aces, and Kimberly Bailey is fifth with 284 total digs and 3.64 digs per set.
All-Time Series vs. Omaha
IPFW is a perfect 3-0 all-time against Omaha. The 'Dons swept the series a season ago winning 3-2 on the road and 3-0 at home. In their first meeting this season, the 'Dons held Omaha to a season-low nine points in the third set. IPFW made a dramatic comeback in Nebraska last season. After dropping the first two sets, the Mastodons would take the final three sets to pick up the win in their first ever meeting. Before Omaha joining The Summit League, the two teams had never met.

Scouting the Leathernecks
Western Illinois enters the weekend coming off a sweep of Omaha at home.
