
Beard Named Newcomer of the Championship as 'Dons Take Fifth

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - IPFW freshman Brittany Beard was named the Summit League Newcomer of the Championship, awarded to the highest placing true freshman in the field, as the Mastodons took fifth at the 2013 Summit League Championships, hosted by IPFW.
The Mastodons scored 123 team points, as North Dakota State ran away with the team title with 25 total points. South Dakota State took second with 47 points, while South Dakota and IUPUI placed third and fourth with 66 and 84 points, respectively. Omaha and Western Illinois scored 156 and 207 points each to round out the seven teams in the field.
Tiffany Rauch led IPFW with a 17th place finish, narrowly missing out on All-Summit League honors (top 14 earned All-League honors), as she finished the 6,000-meter course in a time of 22:42.87, while Beard took 21st in 22:47.55. Julie Jeszenszky placed 23rd for the 'Dons in 22:52.37, while Amaya Ayers (32nd/23:20.34) and Jordan Tomecek (34th/23:22.80) rounded out the scoring five, giving the Matsodons a 1-5 pack time of 40 seconds.
Rachel Zachar placed 36th in a time of 23:27.73, while Kayla Boyes ran to a 38th place finish in 23:41.64. Andrea Bell fell just outside of IPFW's top seven in 23:44.21, placing 39th, as Katie Simmons placed 54th in a time of 25:01.89.
The Mastodons return to action in two weeks when the squad competes in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional hosted by Wisconsin.
