Mastodons Fall in Summit Tournament Semifinals to Ranked Pioneers

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons fell in the opening round of the 2013 Summit League Semifinals to 14th ranked (National Soccer Coaches Association) Denver by a 3-0 score on Friday afternoon.
The loss ends IPFW's season with a 6-12-1 record, while Denver advances to the Championship match where they will face off against either South Dakota State or North Dakota State.
The Mastodons employed a defensive game plan in the match, and the plan played to perfection through the first 40 minutes of the match, before the nationally ranked Pioneers got their first goal of the tournament from 2013 Summit League Player of the Year Kristen Hamilton in the 41st minute of the match, putting the top seed ahead 1-0, an advantage they held at halftime.
In the second half the Pioneers added a penalty kick goal in the 67th minute, and added an insurance score from Hamilton, giving the match its 3-0 final score.
IPFW managed one shot in the match, a dangerous attempt from Delia Soucie that missed just high, as Denver goalkeeper Cassidy Rey picked up the shutout. Mastodon goalkeeper Sam Pavlika picked up five saves in the loss.
