Sherwood's Big Day Paces IPFW at Home Tournament Opener

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW Mastodons opened play at their own IPFW Spring Invitational, and were led by freshman Brenna Sherwood's 76 in the opening round, as the Mastodons sit in 10th place in the field after the first of two days.
IPFW carded a 323, the team's third-lowest round this season, less than 10 strokes from third place in the crowded field. Indianapolis leads the field after the first day with a 308, with Detroit (309), Evansville (314), Northern Illinois (315), SIU Edwardsville (316), Dayton (317), Oakland (319), Loyola (321), and Valparaiso (321) sitting just ahead of the 'Dons.
Sherwood's total is her best of the season by three strokes, as she sits in a tie for fifth place overall in the field. Allison Curtis carded a 78, tying her for 16th place, while Sydney Bailey shot an 83, for a tie of 43rd in the field.
Alyssa Turney rounded out the scoring five for the Mastodons with an 86, tying her for 54th, while Ashton Taft shot an 87 to put her 57th. Playing as individuals, Taylor Lamphier shot an 88 (57th), Meredith Holt a 94 (60th), and Brianna Hatter a 96 (61st).
The field returns to Brookwood Golf Course on Monday morning at 10 a.m. for the second of two rounds in a shotgun start.
