Mastodons Take Ninth at 2013 Summit League Championships

KELLER, Texas - Behind Bruno Carvalho's 76, the IPFW Mastodons put together their best round of the 2013 Summit League Championships, hosted at the Sky Ranch Creek G.C.

IPFW's 314 gave them a three-round score of 959, 13 strokes behind Omaha for eighth place. Kansas City ran away with the team title with an 880, 19 strokes ahead of second-place South Dakota, as South Dakota State (912), Western Illinois (917), and North Dakota State (924) rounded out the top five.

Carvalho, a senior, saved his best for last, as his final-round 76 was the second-lowest IPFW score on the weekend. Dan Wert and Drake Devereux carded identical 79's, while Oliver Gibson rounded out the scoring four for the 'Dons with an 80, while Jacob Groninger closed out the IPFW efforts with an 81.

Behind a stellar first two round, Groninger paced the team for the weekend with a 228, tied for 12th in the field. Carvalho's 244 put him in 35th place, while Wert's 245 ties him for 36th. Gibson's three-round 251 saw him finish 41st, while Devereux' 256 was 43rd best in the field.

The tournament ends the 2012-13 season for the Mastodons.
