ROCHESTER, Mich. - Despite a career-high-tying 10 saves from sophomore goalkeeper Sam Pavlika, the IPFW Mastodons fell 3-0 to former Summit League rival Oakland on Saturday evening.
The Mastodons fell to 2-6 on the season, and the squad took six shots in the game. Two of the shots came from Delia Soucie, and one each from Erin Gill, Sydney Hoareau, Tessa Edwards, and Maya Reyes, while the Golden Grizzlies took 24 in the contest.
Sam Pavlika picked up 10 saves, giving her 45 for the season while her counterpart Stephanie Bukovec had one stop in the contest.
Oakland struck first in the game 14:47 into the contest when Meghan Reynolds converted a penalty kick, in what would end up being the game-winning goal.
With just over a minute and a half on the clock before halftime, Oakland's Joan Sieja sent a pass to Natalie Righetti, who gathered the ball and fired it to the far post, out of the reach of Pavlika.
Just over 18 minutes into the second half the Grizzlies' Reynolds scored again, putting the hosts ahead 3-0, as neither team would score over the remaining 26-plus minutes of the contest.
The Mastodons return to action on September 27 when the squad travels to Normal, Ill., to face off against Illinois State in the last of the teams' four-match road trip.
