SCOUTING THE MASTODONS
IPFW faces off against Miami on Saturday evening after splitting its last four games of the season with wins over Jacksonville and Stetson and losses to Georgia Tech and Dartmouth.
In the most recent game, an 87-76 win over Stetson, the Mastodons put four players in double figures, including two - Steve Forbes and Mo Evans - with 20 or more. Forbes put together a 22-point, 10-rebound double-double, while Evans scored 20, hitting 6-of-10 from long range. Joe Reed and Michael Calder each added 10 points, while Max Landis (9) and Isaiah McCray (8) each finished a basket shy of double figures.
This season the Mastodons have put four players in double-figure scoring average, led by the 15.0 points per game of Forbes. McCray stands second on the team with 12.3 points per game while leading the team with 46 rebounds despite his 6-0 size. Evans (12.2) and Joe Edwards (11.3) also average in double-figures, with Joe Reed (8.4) on the cusp of the double-figure plateau.
Evans leads the team with 25 assists through six games, as the team has 96 assists on 154 baskets during the year, while also out-rebound its opponents by 1.7 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Miami comes into the Saturday evening meeting looking to snap out of its current four-game losing skid, with the most recent loss coming on Wednesday evening at home by a 66-62 score against the Dayton Flyers.
In the loss to the Flyers, Willie Moore scored a team-high 14 points off of the bench for the RedHawks while Eric Washington scored 12 with eight assists and Chris Bryant added 10. Dayton led by 16 halfway through the second half before Miami chipped away at the deficit, using a 15-4 run to close to within as few as five, and closed within a possession late, but could not overcome the early deficit in the four-point loss.
The squad has used a balanced effort in the team's seven games, with six different players leading the team in scoring. Will Sullivan leads the team by averaging 10.7 points per game with Eric Washington close behind at 10.3. Two others, Geovonie McKnight and Chris Bryant average nine and seven points per game, respectively.
