
Mastodons Use Balanced Attack in Milestone Win

INDIANAPOLIS - The IPFW men's basketball team won its 20th game of the season, as six players reached double figures in an 84-60 victory over the IUPUI Jaguars.
The Mastodons picked up 20 wins for the fifth time in program history, and the first since 1992-93. The Mastodons hit 35-of-54 from the floor - a percentage of 64.8 - which is the best for IPFW this season, and the second-best in the Summit League in 2013-14.
Luis Jacobo scored 13 points, while Steve Forbes and Joe Reed each scored a dozen. Micheal Kibiloski put in 11 points, as Pierre Bland and Mo Evans each scored 10.
Jacobo and Forbes each missed a double-double by a single rebound, as the Mastodons out-rebounded IUPUI 39-to-21. Pierre Bland dished out a game-high six assists for IPFW, which had a 19-to-8 assist-to-turnover ratio in the game.
The Mastodons never trailed in the game; however, the teams were knotted at 8-8 before IPFW ran off an 8-1 run to push ahead to a seven-point, 16-9 lead. The margin reached double figures at 23-13 with 7:51 to play in the opening half, and IPFW took an 11-point, 36-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Kibiloski opened the second half with a three-pointer, setting the tone for the rest of the second half, which saw IPFW make 21-of-29 shots (72.4%) in the second half. The margin never reached single digits in the final 20 minutes of play, as the 'Dons out-rebounded the Jaguars 19-to-6 in the second stanza.
IUPUI was led by 13 points from Marcellus Barksdale, while Donovan Gibs and Khufu Najee each scored 11.
The Mastodons, now in a tie for second place with South Dakota State in the league standings, closes the regular season on the road at Western Illinois (Thursday, February 27) and Omaha (Saturday, March 1).
