Mastodons Close Regular Season at Omaha

OMAHA, Neb. - The IPFW Mastodons will cap the 2013-14 regular season on Saturday afternoon against a team that is closing its overall season - the Omaha Mavericks. The Mastodons will look to close out the series sweep against the Mavericks, and take revenge for a late-season loss in Omaha last season.

In the win over IUPUI, Mike Rostampour scored 18 points, while Marcus Tyus added 17, and Justin Simmons 15. Rostampour pulled in nine rebounds, with John Karhoff, Devin Patterson, and Alex Phillips each dishing out four assists.
Four players average double-figure points for the Mavericks, led by CJ Carter, who averages 13.7 points per game. Karhoff is just off of the pace averaging 13.1, while Patterson (10.2) and Simmons (10.1) also average in double figures. Two players - Rostampour and Tyus - each average 8.9 points per game.
Rostampour is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 6.8 per game, as Carter averages 3.4 assists per game. Patterson has a team-best 55 steals, with Matt Hagerbaumer blocking 31 shots to lead the team.
• IPFW's 21 wins this season are the first time since 1992-93 that a team has won at least 20 games, and stands tied for the second-most wins in program history.
• IPFW ranks 14th in NCAA Division I in field goal percentage according to the NCAA, while Steve Forbes is 10th in the county in individual field goal percentage by the ESPN statistical rankings (he is 15 field goal makes shy of qualifying for the NCAA rankings).
• IPFW's 20-of-21 free throw shooting game against North Dakota State stands as the 20th-best single-game shooting performance in NCAA Division I this season.
• IPFW's current RPI of 138 is the third-lowest in program history, behind only the 128 from four and a half weeks ago and the 129 from last week. Coming into the season, the best season-ending RPI was 180 in 2010-11.
• IPFW head coach Tony Jasick, now 48-45 in his career, stands in sole possession of fourth place in career coaching wins and is one of two coaches in program history to have a career record of .500 or better.
• IPFW's 21-9 record stands tied for the most wins and second-best win percentage in the state among NCAA Division I program. IPFW is tied with Indiana St. with 21 wins, and trail just the Sycamores (21-8) in win percentage. Of the 10 NCAA Division I teams in the state, seven have a winning record with an overall winning percentage of .483 (139-149).
• IPFW finished the month of January with a 7-1 record, the best record for the month in program history, better than the previous top mark of 8-2 in 1991-92.
