'Dons Seventh After First Round of IPFW Spring Classic

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - After the first round of its own Spring Classic, the IPFW women's golf team sits in seventh place with an opening round score of 313.
Hosted by IPFW at the par-72 Chestnut Hills Golf Club, the course is being played at 6,075 yards. Indianapolis and Ferris State sit tied atop the team leaderboard carding scores of 300, respectively. Ashley Swanson of Ferris State and Aislynn Merling of Youngstown State lead the 66 player field, carding an even-par 72.
The Mastodons sit two strokes out of fourth place after carding a season-low score, five strokes better than their previous best round.
Leading the way for the 'Dons is Taylor Lamphier, firing a 3-over-par 75 for the afternoon to sit in a tie for ninth place. The round by Lamphier was a career-best and is also tied for the best round this season by any IPFW golfer.
Ashton Taft ended the round in a tie for 21st, carding a 78 for the day. Allison Curtis and Sydney Bailey tied for 31st with rounds of 80, respectively. Brenna Sherwood rounded out the Mastodons squad, shooting an 81 to finish in a tie for 38th.
Playing as an individual for IPFW was Candi Keller who finished her day in a tie for 65th, carding a 94.
The final round of the IPFW Spring Classic will be a 9 a.m. shotgun start at the Chestnut Hills Golf Club.
