Mastodons Finish Eighth At Spring Classic

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The rain stayed away just long enough for the final round of the fifth annual IPFW Spring Classic as the Mastodons finished eighth overall carding a two-day total 635.
Hosted by IPFW at the par-72 Chestnut Hills Golf Club, the course was played at 6,075 yards. Indianapolis won the event for the third straight year, shooting a 612 for the tournament to win the 12 team field. Allison Mitzel came from two strokes down to start the day to take the medalist honors in the 66-player field with a 36-hole score of 147.
IPFW finished one stroke behind seventh place Chicago State.
Ashton Taft carded a 78 for the second straight round to lead the Mastodons with a 156 for the tournament and finish tied for 18th. Sitting one stroke back in a tie for 20th was Sydney Bailey and Taylor Lamphier. Bailey had two birdies in the round on Nos. 3 and 18, both of which are par-5. On the 506-yard No. 18, Bailey was one of just four golfers in either round to record a birdie on the hole. Bailey was one of two golfers in the round to record a birdie on the 491-yard No. 3.
Allison Curtis finished the tournament with a score of 165, tying for 46th overall. Brenna Sherwood closed out the team scoring for the Mastodons with a two-day total 168 to finish in a tie for 52nd.
Playing as an individual for the 'Dons was Candi Keller who carded a tournament total 182, finishing in 63rd place.
In its final tournament before the Summit League Championship the IPFW squad will play in the two-day Dolores Black Falcon Invitational hosted by Bowling Green.
