Mastodons Tie For Eighth At Cardinal Classic

YORKTOWN, Ind. - The IPFW women's golf team used a 15-stroke improvement on the final day of the Cardinal Classic to finish tied with Northern Kentucky for eighth place with a two-day score of 633.
The Mastodons carded a team score of 309 on day two, the second best performance ever by an IPFW team in a par-72 tournament.
Hosted by Ball State at The Players Club, the par-72 course was played at 6,164 yards. Eastern Michigan won on the first hole of a playoff over Western Michigan after both teams finished with a 36-hole score of 598. Chloe Lawrie of Western Michigan took home the individual medalist honors, shooting a 1-over-par 145 for the tournament.
IPFW's Allison Curtis finished the tournament in a tie for fourth place with a par-72 school record 5-over-par 149. Her score is also the lowest 36-hole total by a senior in Mastodon history.
Monica Dorner concluded the tournament in a tie for 27th with a two-day score of 156, which ranks tied for fourth best all-time by a freshman. Sydney Bailey and Ashton Taft improved their first day scores by a combined 24 strokes to finish with tournament totals of 166 and 168, respectively. Bailey tied for 72nd overall while Taft placed 79th. Brenna Sherwood closed out the team scoring for the Mastodons with a 169 for the tournament, tying for 80th place.
Candi Keller wrapped up the 36 holes carding a two-round score of 176 and finishing 92nd overall.
IPFW next competes at the two-day Cougar Classic hosted by Chicago State beginning October 6.
