Two Is Better Than One...
Hailie Ripley was named a Summit League Co-Defensive Player of the Week along with Denver's Kate Acker for their performances during the season opening weekend, Aug. 29-30.
Ripley earns Defensive Player of the Week for the second time of her career after helping the Mastodons go undefeated (3-0) opening weekend to win the Bronco Classic. The junior middle hitter tied a career-high with eight blocks in the five-set victory over Western Michigan. For the weekend, Ripley totaled 13 blocks (11 block assists, 2 solo blocks) to average 1.18 blocks per set, along with 19 kills, a. 341 hitting percentage, three digs and an assist.
Bronco Classic Champs...
The Mastodons captured the 2014 Bronco Classic last weekend by defeating Saint Francis (PA), Oakland, and host Western Michigan to begin the season 3-0. Kendall Wienkes and Emily Spencer each had a pair of double-doubles on the weekend, Wienkes against Saint Francis and Oakland, and Spencer against Oakland and Western Michigan.
Spencer was named the Tournament MVP while Wienkes and Sarah Heckman were named to the All-Tournament Team. During the tournament, Spencer moved into fifth place on the IPFW all-time kill list and 13th on the all-time dig list.
