Women's Volleyball Drops Tough Road Match
10/17/2015 10:16:00 PM | Women's Volleyball
VERMILLION, S.D. - Despite a match-high 21 digs from Olivia Hahn, the IPFW women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to South Dakota 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-16).
Hahn's 21 digs tied a season-high for a three-set match. Natalie Seiler and Monica Hall each finished the night with a match-high three blocks.
Offensively, Somer Johnson led the Mastodons with eight kills. Seiler, Sarah Heckman, and Nicole Rightnowar each added in four kills. Seiler also led the team with a .444 hitting percentage. Madison Jaqua led the 'Dons with 11 assists and two aces.
With IPFW trailing 4-3 in the first set, South Dakota rattled off eight straight points to win the opening frame. The Coyotes again jumped out to an early lead off a 5-0 run to begin the second set. Late in the set, the Mastodons scored five consecutive points to close to within three. USD rallied to score the final two points and take the set.
A 7-1 stretch to begin the third set was too much for the 'Dons to come back from. IPFW closed the gap to two, 9-7, but a 7-2 Coyote run gave them the set and the match.
IPFW returns to action on October 21 for a non-league match at Valparaiso with first serve set for 7 p.m. ET.
