Mastodons Win Annual Fitness Day Game Over Trine

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The IPFW women's basketball team opened its regular season with an 82-62 victory over Trine in front of a crowd of over a thousand students from local elementary schools for the annual Kid's Fitness Day.
Kamilah Carter led the Mastodons with 16 points. Josie Fisher scored 14, going 7-of-9 from the floor, with a game-high four steals, and pulled down five rebounds. Selena Lozada added 13 points for the 'Dons and five rebounds.
KeShyra McCarver, Courtney Ogle, and De'Jour Young contributed nine points apiece for IPFW. Rachel Rinehart had a game-high five assists.
The Mastodons led the Thunder the entire way after going on an 11-0 run to open the game. McCarver was a force in the first quarter, as all nine of her points came during the first eight minutes of the game. IPFW went into halftime with a 46-26 lead over the Thunder.
The 'Dons came out strong in the third quarter and improved its lead to 25 points at the 7:13 mark, their largest lead of the game. IPFW played strong defensively in the fourth quarter and never let its lead go under 16 points down the stretch.
On the afternoon, the 'Dons connected on 30-of-58 (51.7%) of their field goal attempts, including 7-of-15 (46.7%) from beyond the arc, and 15-of-28 (53.6%) at the free throw line.
The Mastodons are back in action on November 16 against Grace at 5 p.m. as a part of an IPFW basketball doubleheader where the men's team will take on Manchester at 7:30 p.m.
