FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IPFW women's basketball team dropped a last-minute thriller, 84-81, to USC Upstate handing the Mastodons their first loss of the season.
Kamilah Carter scored a career-high 24 points while adding three assists and three rebounds for the 'Dons. KeShyra McCarver put up 20 points and pulled down four rebounds, while Josie Fisher scored 17 points and made a game-high three steals. Courtney Ogle and De'Jour Young both pulled down a career- and team-high 10 rebounds.
The Mastodons trailed early in the first quarter, but with the score tied 14-14, IPFW went on a 7-2 run to close the period with a 21-16 advantage over the Spartans. The second quarter saw USC Upstate use a 5-0 run to take a 39-38 advantage going into the half.
IPFW and the Spartans went point-for-point in the fourth quarter. After 12 lead changes throughout the game, the 'Dons pushed hard in the final moments of the game. Fisher connected from downtown as time expired, but it was not enough to overcome USC Upstate.
The Mastodons connected on 27-of-65 (41.5%) of their field goals, including 9-of-22 (40.9%) from beyond the arc, and went 18-of-23 (78.3%) on free throw attempts.
IPFW is back in action November 24 against Indiana University at the Gates Sports Center for a 7 p.m. tipoff.
